FALL 2021 - Another successful NRCHA show season has come to an end.  DFN SPOOKY CAT & DFN SPOOKS BELLE LENA once again had some great results!! "Larry" & Tyler came home with a number of NRCHA Open 2-Rein & Open 2-Rein Spectacular Champion/Reserve Champion titles & "Bella" & Noreen were once again Non Pro Derby Champions in the SRCHA Stallion Incentive Program along with some good results in NRCHA Amateur & Non Pro Derby competitions in 2021.

Both Larry & Bella added just over $3300 each to their earnings in 2021.  This brings Larry's total lifetime earnings to over $31,000 & Bella's total to over $6800!

FALL 2021 - Very exciting to see one of my colts sell at the Premier Horse Sales "Best of Texas" sale in Fort Worth, Texas for $35,000 US$$  DFN SPOOKS JOKENSTRAIT was sold a few years earlier and I was glad to see him doing so well for his new owners - and bringing such a good price at a very prestigious sale!!

This has prompted me to add a "BRAG" page to my website - to share some of the cool horses that are doing cool things with their new owners!!

SUMMER 2021 - A smaller foal-crop than usual this spring but the ones we have are some of the best we've seen yet!!  Summer season also saw two more of my youngsters head to new pastures.  DFN SPOOK COLORD LACE ("Lacey") headed west to Alberta & DFN NOT SPOOKY AT ALL ("Marv") has moved to Ontario which adds another province in Canada that now has a Down The FENSKE Colt!!

FEBRUARY 2020 - DFN SPOOKY CAT & Rider/Trainer Tyler Darroch DID IT!!! They made it down to Fort Worth TEXAS and had a VERY SUCCESSFUL show at the NRCHA Celebration of Champions!!!  They ended up 8th in the preliminary round to earn a spot in the finals where they moved up to 6th place in the world in the Limited Open Hackamore Class!!  We're VERY PROUD of our TEAM and all the hard work they've put in to this great adventure!!

DECEMBER 2020 - DFN SPOOKY CAT & Rider/Trainer Tyler Darroch finished out 2020 show season as the official NRCHA Canadian Regional CHAMPION in the Limited Open Hackamore class!!  He also qualifies for NRCHA CELEBRATION OF CHAMPIONS in Fort Worth TX in Feb.  We are going to do our best to work through regulations and other possible complications to get him & Tyler down there to show!!

NOVEMBER 2020 - with show-season ending we move our attention to the next crop of babies!!  2020 foals are all weaned and happy & ready for their new homes!!  All are being handled & worked with and are doing awesome with the start of their education, all proving to be smart and willing!!  Soon we will be sending 3 of the 4 weanlings to their new homes - Stanley will be heading to Tennessee & Sting & Pink will both be heading to California!!  I'm sure now that it appears that winter has arrived in Sask that they will be happy to enjoy the warmer climates in their new addresses when they arrive.

NOVEMBER 2020 - As 2020 show season has ended a quick recap finds DFN SPOOKY CAT (aka Larry) having been showed at 6 NRCHA shows this year and he brought home either Champion or Reserve Champion at 5 of those shows and a 3rd place finish at the other one!  Larry was also showed successfully in both the Open Hackamore and Limited Open Hackamore a few times over the season as well!!  What a GREAT season he had!!
DFN SPOOKS BELLE LENA had a good season as well and in addition to being Reserve Champion in the Non Pro Derby in Saskatoon (& Champion in the Stallion Incentive there also), Bella had a great season with improvement every time we stepped in the pen!!  with one more year of Non Pro Derby eligibility in 2021 I expect we will see even more great things from this talented & nice filly!!

JULY 2020 - We weren't sure that show-season 2020was even going to arrive at all but thankfully we were able to travel to Alberta in July to hit the "Cow Up on the Prairie" Cow horse show put on by the BC Cow Horse Club.  What a great time with lots of entry!!

DFN SPOOKY CAT had a great show and brought home a 3rd place check in the Level 1 Limited Open Derby and had a spectacular fence run in his first ever Open Hackamore class with a 145.5 down the fence!!

JUNE 10, 2020 - Breeding season 2020 is officially underway as of this morning!!  This year we will have 8 mares exposed to Spooks Delta Dude & I'm looking foward to a very exciting group of babies to arrive starting in May of 2021

…..and as we are patiently waiting for what we hope is at lesat some sort of condensed cow-horse show-season in 2020 as things begin to slowly open back up, we are hoping ALL of our friends, family & clients both near and far are staying SAFE & HEALTHY in these unprecidented & difficult times.

JUNE 1, 2020 - Foaling-season 2020 wrapped up last weekend with 2 FANCY bay splash colts!!  Foaling-season 2020 had it's share of challenges and unfortunately some loss, which made the arrival of these two perfect and FANCY colts even more exciting!!  The season ends off with 4 really nice foals this year - 2 fillies and 2 colts.  If you're interested in purchasing a "Down The FENSKE" prospect please visit the "FOALS" page for 2020 babies or the "SALE BARN" page for older prospects!

NOVEMBER 2019 --- Another exciting and successful show season for the gang this year!!  Spook took the year off from the show-pen to make room/time for his rider to show one of his babies instead!!
This year both DFN SPOOKY CAT & DFN SPOOKS BELLE LENA hit the road on the Canadian fall Futurity/Derby circuit.
DFN SPOOKY CAT was once again shown by Tyler Darroch at the Saskatchewan Reined Cow Horse Association's Cow Horse Classic Futurity/Derby, the Alberta Snaffle Bit Futurity & Dave Robson Derby and the Canadian Snaffle Bit Futurity and once again had some great succeess!!  "Larry" came home wtih Reserve Champion in both the Limited Open Derby and the Level 1 Limited Open Derby at the ASBF/
Dave Robson Derby & was Reserve Champion in the Open Derby & CHAMPION in the Limited Open Derby at the Candian Snaffle Bit Futurity!!  Larry also competed at the Northern Alberta Reined Cow Horse Club Futurity/Derby this fall where Tyler Albrecht did an awesome job of catch-riding Larry while Tyler was unable to ride for us.

DFN SPOOKS BELLE LENA also had an awesome fall show season, showing in the Non Pro Futurity classes with her Owner Noreen in the saddle!! "Bella" also came home with some titles to her name as well.  She was CHAMPION in the SRCHA Stallion incentive Non Pro Futurity division, had the High Fence Score in the Canadian Supreme Division at the Alberta Snaffle Bit Futurity, was Reserve Champion Non Pro Futurity and High Herd-work score at the Northern Alberta Reined Cow Horse Club's Futurity/Derby and was again Reserve Champion in the Non Pro Futurity and High Fence-work score at the Canadian Snaffle Bit Futurity!!

And to end up the year at the CANADIAN SNAFFLE BIT FUTURITY in Edmonton, Alberta DFN SPOOKY CAT was awarded BOTH OPEN FUTURITY CHAMPION and LIMITED OPEN FUTURITY CHAMPION and also placed 3rd (behind only the 2 top bridle horses) in the bonus “Fence Challenge” at the end of the competition!!

Larry will now have a well-deserved break for a few months over winter before getting ready for an exciting Derby season in 2019!!

Not to be out-done, also, at the Canadian Snaffle Bit Futurity,
SPOOKS DELTA DUDE had an awesome run bringing home the title of CHAMPION in the NON PRO BRIDLE class as well!!

What a way to end up Futurity season 2018!!

OCT 2017  Another epic journey to Fort Worth was once again worth the drive!!  This time both Spook and Doc travelled down to compete at APHA WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP SHOW.  Spook came home with 3rd place finish in BOTH the Amateur Working Cow Horse (1/2 point behind reserve !!!) and the OPEN/SENIOR Working Cow Horse (against 7 OPEN riders/horses!!) !!!  Spook also competed in the Amateur Reining where he ended up in 9th place AND the Ranch Riding and Ranch Trail Classes where he placed 6th in the Amateur Ranch Riding, 15th in the Amateur Ranch Trail & 16th in both the Open Ranch Riding & Ranch Trail.  A pretty versatile horse to take in all those classes and be competitive in each of them!!
Doc (DFN SPOOK A DOC) came along to compete in the Cow Horse classes as well and he had a great show as well placing 2nd in the Non Pro 4/5 Working Cow Horse Challenge, 3rd in the Open 4/5 Working Cow Horse Challenge, 4th in the Open Junior Horse Class and 5th in the Amateur Working Cow Horse class.  Not too bad for a 4 yr old who missed almost a full year of training with his eye injury/surgery as a 3 yr old.

SEPT 2017 Saskatchewan Reined Cow Horse Association competition has once again wrapped up for the season.  Spook ended up the Futurity/Derby show with a Reserve Champion title in the Non Pro Bridle class and also was the Champion in the SRCHA Stallion Incentive Bridle Horse Class.  Next stop: APHA World Show in Fort Worth Texas end of Sept !!

MAY 21, 2017  FOALING season 2017 has arrived!!  In the last 2 days we've welcomed 2 new baby colts to the family.  Stay tuned for updates including 4 more babies expected in the next month or so. Photos will be added to the "FOAL" page or check Spook's facebook page for current info/pictures as they arrive.

February, 2017  Spooks Delta Dude will be competing in Canada's Ultimate Cow Horse Competition at the Saskatchewan Equine Expo in Saskatoon, SK on Feb 17 & 18.  Unfortunately there was not enough entry in the Non Pro division so it was cancelled, however the decision was made to stay on and compete in the Open division of the competition, even as a Non Pro riding a Non-Pro-Trained horse.  Anyone attending the show please stop by for a hi and visit with Spook and I,  AND, for anyone interested, I'm giving away a couple pairs of tickets to the evening performances - to enter please head on over to Spooks Delta Dude on Facebook to enter (a few fun questions to answer but it's all in FUN and everyone will get a chance to win!!)

October 1, 2016   Spooks Delta Dude had a successful trip to the 40th edition of the CANADIAN SUPREME in Red Deer, AB bringing home some nice hardware!
Spook ended up Reserve Champion in the Novice Non Pro Bridle class winning a fancy set of 40th Anniversary Spurs !
Spook also made the finals (top 5) in the Non Pro Bridle Class earning him a fence-run at “Saturday Night at the Supreme” where he had a good solid fence-run to earn him a 4th place finish in that class as well.

AUGUST 28, 2016  Another GREAT weekend of COW-HORSE competition at the SRCHA (Sask Reined Cow Horse Association) Futurity/Derby show over the weekend in Saskatoon, Sask.  Spook brought home another fancy buckle for his efforts for CHAMPION in the NON PRO RIDER division with hi-point weekend aggregate score.  It was very exciting to bring home the championship in our home club and rewarding after a number of years of being a serious contender for this award to finally have everything come together and bring home the championship!!

AUGUST 15, 2016  - Spook had an AWESOME weekend at the Coteau Range Versatility Ranch Horse Competition in Moose Jaw, Sask bringing home the CHAMPION buckle in the AMATEUR All-Around division (All-Breed + AQHA combined).  A total of 12 amateur horses/riders (10 QH + 2 Paints) competed in a total of 6 different events over the weekend with the placings all combined into the All Around Versatility awards to determine the true most versatile ranch horse.

Note only did we show that Spook can compete on par with the AQHA horses in attendance, he also proves that yes is IS a VERY VERSATILE guy!!

JULY 2016 - Spooks first born-son, Bandit AKA:SPOOKSSTRAITSONOFAGUN has found a GREAT new home & is officially SOLD !!  Bandit has found his perfect new family near Saskatoon, Sask and is hoping to become a new mounted-shooting mount for Susan & Vance.  Thank-you so much & I wish you much success in the years ahead, and please keep us updated!

JUNE 2016 - Foaling season is well underway with 4 beautiful Spook-colts on the ground and one more expected soon.  For photos of the new arrivals visit  the "foal" page.

JUNE 8, 2016 - VERY EXCITING new arrival at Down the FENSKE Cow Horses today!  A new addition to the broodmare band, "Do Be Colord", a daughter of the one and only Color Me Smart & representing some great APHA cutting/cowhorse breeding,  I'm very excited to see the colts she'll produce with Spooks Delta Dude starting next spring.  More info on my new girl "Princess" on the mare page.

November 2015  A definite "buck-it" list item that we have been working towards for the last 3-4 years has finally come to pass!!  Spook and I made the LONG journey to Fort Worth, Texas to compete with the best paint horses in the world at the APHA WORLD Championship Show.  Spook competed in 2 reining classes (Novice Amateur & Amateur) and 2 cowhorse classes (Amateur & Open Senior) and was pleased to come home with 3 top 5 placings including RESERVE WORLD CHAMPION in the Novice Amateur Reining, 3rd place in the Amateur Working Cow Horse and 5th in the Open Senior Working Cow Horse!!  he also ended up 15th (out of 26) in the Amateur Reining.  Not too bad for a little home-trained cowhorse and his non-pro owner/rider!!  We were pleased with our success but reality is that it only fueled our desire to go back and try it again...so yep, it's back on the buck-it list for the future....

October 4, 2015  Spook had another successful outing at the Canadian Supreme in 2015.  With a new personal-best fence score (145) he ended up 3rd in the aggregate in the Novice Non Pro Bridle class and also was in the top 5 to make the finals in the Non Pro Bridle Class...when the dust settled at Cinch-Night (finals) we came home with a fourth place finish in the non pro.

September 8, 2015  Spook and Bandit had another successful outing at the South-East-Sask Dressage series.  Spook came home with the Champion title in the Basic Level and Bandit tied for Reserve spot, also in basic level, so one spot back of Spook.  Pretty good for none of us ever having done dressage before this year!

August 16, 2015
Spook and I had fun at the Coteau Range Versatility Ranch Horse competition on the weekend and came home with the Champion title in the ALL-Breed division!  Thanks to the organizers for offering an all-breed division this year for those of us on 'non-quarter-horse' horses to come out and try the event; we've been interested in trying it since it was first introduced a number of years ago, and yes, it was as interesting and FUN as it sounded!!

June 27, 2015  For a change of pace, & a step outside of our usual 'comfort-zone' Spook & Bandit and I decided to try something new and attended a Western Dressage competition even though we knew very little about it going in..turns out the boys were actually pretty good at western dressage - in the Basic Levels tests Spook scored 70.65 on the first test & 69.444 on his second for a first place both times, and Bandit (Spooksstraitsonofagun) also in the Basic Level scored 69.032 & 67.500 on his two tests to place 3rd and 2nd behind his daddy both times.  I was VERY PLEASED with our outcome and look forward to trying out more dressage in the future...as I already knew, this just confirms that a well-broke working cow horse can do almost anything !!!

Jun 10, 2015   DNA test results are back for 3 of my main broodmares and the 2 Spook-foals born in 2015.  Happy to see that both Foals tested 5 Panel N/N and not surprised that the white filly tested homozygous Tobiano with Splash White 1&2 mixed in for some fun...2015 stud-colt tested Tobiano T/N SW2/N
Broodmare results posted on mare-page.

May 28, 2015 A fancy, almost solid white filly showed up this morning from old faithful momma Luckydee Teena!  She's a good strong filly, looks like going to be a good size, as usual with Teena.

May 24, 2015
The first Spooks Delta Dude sired foal of the season arrived early this morning!  Omega Kitty, my daughter of High Brow Cat, foaled a very loud and very uniquely marked sorrel tovero colt.  He will be offered for sale.  Watch for pictures soon on the “Foals” page

May 24, 2015  DFN SPOOK SUGARNSPICE, yearling filly sired by Spooks Delta Dude out of Luckydee Teena left for her new home near Sundre, Alberta today.  Good Luck with your new filly Britt & thanks for giving this sweet girl a great new home!

May 18, 2015 DFN SPOOKS LUCKYSMILE, 2 year old gelding sired by Spooks Delta Dude left for his new home this morning near Viscount, Sask.  Good luck with your new partner Ashley!

May 9, 2015  Elphabelena foaled a nice strong palomino stud-colt this morning to kick off foaling season at Down The FENSKE Cow Horses.  This little guy is sired by Heza Diamond Spark and has already been spoken for.  I’m looking forward to breeding Ella to Spook for a 2016 foal.

April 28, 2015 – As we patiently wait for foaling season at Down the FENSKE Cow Horses we have had a few new developments to share.  Doc “DFN SPOOK A DOC” is recently home from 2 months with Tyler Darroch at Darroch Performance Horses where he is showing great potential as a future cowhorse.  After a brief vacation, during which time he’ll also be gelded, Doc will continue on in training with Tyler with plans to keep him “on track” for the 2016 cow horse futurities.   Taking his place at Darroch Performance Horses when he came home, was Magoo, “DFN SPOOKS PEPINIC”, who will also be started under saddle with Tyler, after which we will make some future plans for him as well.  It’s very exciting to see these youngsters excel and show the potential that I was planning for when making breeding decisions many months and years ago! It is such a great feeling to watch the results of my breeding decisions turn into such great horses and of course this is only the beginning!!

February 15, 2015 - Welcome home to the latest quality broodmare that is being added to the band here at Down the FENSKE Cow Horses.  For more info on Elphabelena, aka "Ella", my new daughter of Smart Aristocrat, check out the "mare" page.

February 15, 2015 - Spook competed at Canada's Ultimate Cow Horse competition this past weekend at the Saskatchewan Equine Expo in Saskatoon & ended up a very respectable 4th in the overall aggregate in the Non Pro class after two 3rd place scores in the herd-work and the second fence-work run of the weekend.  We were pleased with his show and are now looking forward to and working towards the 2015 summer show season.

November 20, 2014 - There has been some questions as to the OLWS status of some of Rein’s foals.  Rein Dancin Strait has now officially been tested OLWS N/N so combining that info with Spook’s N/N status means that ALL of Rein’s offspring with Spook will also be guaranteed OLWS N/N

October 22, 2014 – We are VERY proud to say that Spooks Delta Dude was recently featured in a Paint Horse Journal article on www.apha.com

October 4, 2014 - Spooks Delta Dude had a very successful outing at the Canadian Supreme in Red Deer, Alberta!  Not only did we make it into the top-5 and into the finals, earning fence-work run Saturday night at the Cinch-Night performance, he smoked out an awesome fence-run to earn him 3rd place in the Non Pro Bridle class!  It was a pretty emotional & proud moment for his Non-Pro owner who also happens to be his only trainer!!
